बिनाटिकट यात्रा करने वालों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई नहीं हो सकी क्योंकि रेलवे मजिस्ट्रेट ही नही
The checking conducted by commercial department officials of Northern Railway (NR) to nab ticketless travellers boomeranged after the railway magistrate did not turn up and the passengers detained for the offence panicked so much that railway had to comfort them over snacks. On Friday, ACM Anshu Pandey who according to the official information is not more than three months old in the organisation went on to conduct `fortress checking' at Charbagh station since early in the morning, much in the knowledge of the senior officials. It is a periodical checking which is carried out to get hold of passengers travelling without ticket or those not having platform tickets at the station. By afternoon, at least 300 ticketless travellers were detained by the railway team, though railway officials shared that there were not more than 150 passengers who were taken hold of and put together in the first class retiring room. The ticketless travellers can either be charged with a penalty or are presented before the railway magistrate for a trial. Railway team had decided in the favour of the latter this time. During such a checking the station is almost guarded like a fort and none of the passengers are allowed to escape checking. The passengers who were detained in the morning had started panicking as the clock struck twelve. It took a worse turn as the railway magistrate did not turn up and those caught could not be tried for the offence. There were also families which had been detained and presence of women and children aggravated the situation. "When I got to know that there were also kids and women in the lot I asked the team to go easy and let them go", said Neeraj Sharma, senior divisional commercial manager, NR. The railway officials had to arrange for some quick refreshments to comfort the hungry children and women. Some of the passengers reportedly got agitated when they asked railway officials to let them go after realising the penalty but officials did not act accordingly. "I had finally asked the team to let go the passengers since the magistrate could not come", added Sharma. He also added that it was important to send the message across that ticketless travelling is not permitted and that got conveyed by the move. Meanwhile, some of the passengers have already got their complaints registered with the RPF, Charbagh.
